Practicum Post 7- Brad Umane

After a few months, I feel its though its time change up my avatar. Previously, I had a pretty standard, dark haired, green eyed, tall white guy with a baby blue shirt and shorts. He had pretty cool sunglasses and a backwards hat, and slightly resembled what I look like. When I first made him, I was anxious to just get into the game and start playing, kind of dismissing this stage of the process. With some extra time on my hands, it was fun creating a new identity. I decided to make a short asian girl, with blue hair and an eye patch. I wonder what people will think when they play me in Madden or Call of Duty. Could this be what I actually look like? The customization of an avatar is a really fascinating aspect of Xbox live and allows gamers to get really creative in their representations of themselves

  1. I've played a lot of Yahoo Games, and it's pretty amazing how much I assume about someone just by their avatar. If it's an "old man" avatar I feel like I'm playing against a wise old man, whereas if I play against an "alien" avatar I feel like I'm playing a stupid kid. Would be interesting to see how accurate avatar's actually are.

  2. Do you think people treated you any differently with your asian avatar? I think if this project was longer, it would be interesting to see if other avatars treated you differently based on your avatar. As weird as it sounds, I can't imagine creating an avatar that was a different race than me. I have almost always created avatars that resemble me or at least build upon an image I had of myself. Creating a completely different avatar seems like a release and a way to get away from life.
