Practicum Post 6- Brad Umane

After playing way more than the required hours on Xbox live, I decided to try out some of the alternative features that the gaming console offers. My friends and I set up a Netflix account and started a marathon of movies which we all had already seen. Although the selection of things to watch is somewhat limited, having movies and tv shows any time without cramming in front of a computer screen is awesome. Another interesting aspect of Netflix is that you can use Microsoft Points, earned from gaming, to renew subscriptions. The Xbox live points currency the only rewards program offered by Microsoft and is believed to be started to compete with Sony's Playstation program started in October.

  1. It's funny that you just set up a Netflix account - I have had one for awhile but just realized last week that you can stream through Xbox! I don't own one but my neighbors do, and it's awesome instantly watching movies on their nice large TV instead of squinting at my computer (Requiem is a bit more intense when Leto isn't 6" tall). I think it's so great that all these programs work together to create an experience for the user (although I do not know what Microsoft Points is? Guess I should get with the times). Before we started watching a phone commercials came on TV and I wondered (although I wouldn't subscribe to watching on such a small screen) when they will make a Netflix app for phones. It'd be cool to earn points playing Solitaire on my phone, and to edit your queue or rate movies for later...maybe in the near future?
