Practicum 7

I have to hand it to game developers, what they do is not easy. Kongregate offers some tutorials to show people how to use the Flash application to create their games. I've been playing around with the Flash application all afternoon and I'm just really really frustrated at this point. The tutorials do a good job of explaining what all the tools are in Flash and how to add things onto your platform, but for the life of me I cannot understand it. The tutorial itself is actually a really interesting concept. Kongregate has you build on top of a really simple game (similar to helicopter or jetman) that they've already created. So all of the examples used in the tutorials are from that game, which allows you to get a sense of what you're supposed to be working on in that step. Each section of the tutorial shows you how to do something else in the game, such as how to move your ship, or how to add in enemy ships and missiles, etc. The tutorial teaches you how to do everything you would need in a game, but even for a first-time developer such as myself, its still really hard. Obviously, it would take a lot of time and experience to put together a really good game, and even if I wanted to make a semi-decent game based on the tutorial example, I still need to play around with the Flash application a lot. Chances of me making a game that even works, let alone looks nice: slim to none. But I'll give it a try.
