Practicum 5
I've been playing more multiplayer games recently, trying to get a feel for the online-gaming forum. After playing a few games that are a bit bigger and have a more players that I can play and interact with on at one time, I am starting to see some cool things. The first thing that I've noticed is that some of the larger games that would best be categorized as MMO/RPG are very different from some of the smaller, more head-to-head games that I played on the site. I have the opportunity to learn a lot more from the other players in these games because I'm not going up against any of them really and the goal of the game isn't to beat them. I have found that a lot of the people in the bigger games are more helpful and a little nice. I have no problem telling them that I'm new to the game and they are normally nice about it and give me a few tips to get me started. Something that I expected to see more of in the bigger games, and have seen more of, is the wider range of things you can do. Unlike a lot of the head-to-head multiplayer games that are really goal-oriented, you have the opportunity to just go around and interact with others who are playing the game than just having to complete the objective and kill or beat the other player. The only problem I'm facing is that in an attempt to get a feel for the various games and types of games that Kongregate offers, I haven't really been able to master any one game. I will play each game for an hour or so, learn the basics and main objectives, and move on to another. I'll probably try to really master one of the games in the next few days as I wrap up my practicum project.
