Youtube vs. Hulu: The Showdown

I am a horrible YouTube user. I never go on and just find new videos to watch like some people can, so I had no idea what to watch. I ended up watching one of the videos on the "trending" list, which I thought was interesting that they had. Since many videos get famous on YouTube, this list is a good way to keep track of what is becoming popular. The video I chose to watch is called "Most Awkward NBA Handshake Ever (Kevin Love/Wes Johnson)." Let me tell you, the title did not lie. It was the most awkward NBA handshake ever. Aside from that, it was obviously imported or uploaded footage from the game, and then edited by the user. When the handshake was about to occur, a huge arrow appeared on the screen to focus viewer attention there. Afterward, he put in a black screen that said "lol" in white to end the video. I liked that because I actually was laughing out loud. That made me laugh more. However, this video wouldn't be anywhere but YouTube because it is ridiculous.

On Hulu, I was not about to sit and watch an episode of television for the purpose of this blog post (sorry, Danny). Instead, I watched a behind the scenes clip from the upcoming episode of Glee. It started with an advertisement that lasted about 5 seconds, and ended with a black screen advertising the time the show the is actually on FOX. The content was obviously provided by FOX as a treat for fans who would go on hulu to find some bonus material. It was well made, and the interviews had professionally done fonting across the screen. I didn't know that hulu had things other than shows to watch, so it is nice to see that they have behind the scenes clips like this for several shows. It is a reward for fans who are signing on hulu to watch or rewatch the shows. This is a decision made by the networks to provide this material to hulu, instead of user-generated.
