youtube & hulu videos

The youtube video I watched was "matt cardle singing the first time (ever i saw your face) - the x factor live show 5." because it was one of the the videos on the youtube website. It was posted by: TheXFactorUK. It was taken live from the channel it first aired on and was just put on youtube. under the description it discussed this contestant, matt, and how the last week was a pretty tough week for him after some worrying comments arose. It also asked a rhetorical question to viewers saying "Can Matt do himself proud?" The description then provided two links to click on that directed you to itunes to buy his songs ( a little bit of cross-promotion). At the upper-left hand corner, the clip had "more great clips at itv.com/xfactor on the entire time. I thought it was very interesting how this clip posted a direct link that connected you to the itunes store to buy his music. I think this has become very common amongst TV music show like American Idol as well where you can immediately download the songs right after they are performed (even Glee is like this too).

The clip I watched on Hulu was NBC's Saturday Night Live clip titled "Back to the Future Screen Test, Part 2). I found this clip under the popular clips section on the bottom of the website. Before the clip started, an ad for Gatorade ran for 17 seconds. Then it showed a Back to the Future 25th anniversary DVD where Nicholas Cage, Alan Alda, Prince, Doc, Gilbert Gottfried, Joan Cusack, Pee Wee Herman are all providing commentary for a special feature of the Back to the Future anniversary DVD. Under the video, there was a section for reviews, discussions, tags, and widgetrs.

The main difference between watching something on youtube and hulu is that on hulu, you are guaranteed that you will get advertisements during your screening. Sometimes on youtube you do get advertisements but not often. What was different in this case too was that on the youtube clip, there was no discussions allowed for some reason; it was disabled. On the hulu link, there was much discussion provided. Normally, I would think of youtube having more discussion than hulu but in this case, that wasn't correct. This is most likely because the X Factor clip is from the network is first aired and doesn't want anyone commenting on it or in anyway altering its meaning. Although I think youtube is great because it has so many clips and videos posted, I think you cannot always trust the videos it puts up. And even though hulu has annoying advertisements, you at least know that the videos are from a reliable source where nothing has been tampered with.
