Practicum #1

Over the last few weeks, I've been going onto Kongregate.com, which is an online gaming website that features games that have been made by amateur game developers. The site is very extensive, offering over 34,000 games among several categories, including: action, multiplayer, and adventure & RPG, among others. When I first went on the site, my plan was to spend a few minutes just setting up an account and going through the site to familiarize myself with it. After I signed in, one of the featured games called "Learn To Fly" that day caught my eye. The game itself isn't really anything special--you're a penguin that jumps off of a ramp and you have to control its flight path using the arrow keys. The game has different objectives and stages to it, while also giving you the opportunity to upgrade your penguin by spending money you have earned along the way. I started playing, just thinking that I'd play for a few rounds and move on to another game. The next thing I knew it was over an hour later and I was on the last level. I'm not really sure how it happened, but for whatever reason I felt the need to complete the game before I did anything else. The site is actually really cool. I've actually found a number of fun games on that are very simple to play and are also extremely addictive. Eventually I will start to get into some of the more complicated aspects of the site, and maybe even try to make my own game. We'll see...
