Practicum Post #4

As I continue my involvement on the bh 90210 message board, I feel more welcomed now than ever. Being an active member, people are really getting to know who I am and call me by my username, jleigh2, and refer back to me in some posts as well. Everyone on this board is very welcoming and encourages new members. Some new person wrote on the board for the first time and I was surprised to see how many people answered her discussion topic with "Welcome to the board" and other types of greetings. It amazes me how involved and dedicated people are to this show. The way they deeply talk about the characters is the way one would normally talk about politics, with passion and intense emotion.

I think people really enjoy writing on this board because this show had such an impact on people of every different generation. It premiered 20 years ago and is still on 4 times a day 20 years later. The show is able to reach a new broad of people where moms are now able to watch it with their kids. Although the clothing is very outdated, the issues 90210 discusses and deals with are still very relevant today, which is why I think this show has lasted on TV for so long.

  1. Jen,

I think it is hilarious that people are so into this show still. I love it, too. You're clearly doing well if they are referring back to you in posts...what a 90210 message board all star. What I wonder is whether or not the conversation continues when the series restarts at the beginning again. Do you think the same people comment again on the same episodes? They just replay them over and over again, so it would be interesting to see what this does to the message board.

  2. I would have to guess that the message board for 90210 is cyclical. When the series starts airing from the beginning, a lot of new members join the message board just as the old ones leave. Then again, I think a lot of people get hooked on binge-watching shows and will contribute for a while and then fade away. The ones that consistently participate in the message board can't be on there for more than a complete cycle of all the 90210 seasons. What do you think?
