I really enjoyed Plants v.s. Zombies. It exemplified the "casual game" concept discussed in the Juul article. I've never been a fan of competitive videogames (the closest I've gotten to gaming was the Sims, and I used all of the cheat codes). The game is similar to simple arcade games like pacman, but the graphics are more streamlined. Plants v.s Zombies doesn't require any expert gaming skills or complex multitasking, making it especially attractive to general audiences. Being impressively noncoordinated, I liked the ease with which I was able to pick up and actually succeed in this game!
I noticed the systems thinking features integrated into the game. Each level introduced a new plant with special powers for defeating the zombies. Through the levels, I recognized which plants would be most beneficial in each situation. I'm interested to see how the levels progress.
Overall, the game has a simple, achievable goal, and I felt motivated by the sense that time was running out against the zombies. Whether it was or not, I'm not sure. I'm going to try to lose and see if it's even possible.
