Practicum 2
Aris update!! ok it's not that exciting but i have been participating in the ARIS game Dow Day, which chronicles the history of the Dow Chemical plant protests at UW during the 1960s. A quick history for those unfamiliar, the Dow chemical plant produced napalm for the US army, something we were none too found of at this liberal institution. The game requires me to walk to different parts of campus as a reporter to gather information from various sources. For example, I had to meet a "protester" at library mall that informed me of why students were protesting, after that i walked to the union to meet a Dow rep that defended what they were doing was in the best interests of national security. This game is useful in educating students on a important event in our university's history, along with giving me a decent work out running all over campus. I am stil struggling to find any social aspect to this game, unlike my last adventure filming people singing their favorite songs, as it is a solo quest that takes you on a journey through our campus. My main gripes with this app so far have been that it is not very intuitive, you can unlock an instructional video only after the first two missions have been completed so until then you are on your own, which makes it difficult to get started. Stay tuned for my next exhilarating aris update.
