Practicum #5

Nothing has really changed in activity since my last couple of posts. I did get a little behind on surfing the sites during Thanksgiving, although posted on CookingWithFriends under the "Thanksgiving" theme when I got back to Madison (Pumpkin Pie wontons wowed the fam). I do like that they do themes, and while I got the idea of the recipe from Since my last post I have also "liked" their new FB group (proof of demographic...). I just learned in my Persuasion class that publicly declaring "like"ing a FB page means that you are committed to that cause/issue/interest. I find the opposite with the site, as the entire commitment to it has been reading through recipes, posting, and receiving no feedback. I've come to the conclusion that most members probably solely read through the site creator's posts for ideas, and are not very interesting at forming a social relationship through special interests.

I did finally get a post about a suggestion I made on VegetarianTimes.com, just a simple ingredient change in a potato recipe that someone ran accross, but pretty exciting that someone cares enough to try out a suggestion I made on such a "prestigeous" site.

The biggest change that has happened in the last couple of weeks, is that the FB page Delicious Cookbook Recipes on has become increasingly impersonal. I havn't even written on this page lately, since the only posts are solely by the page owners and are still updated by the minute. Other users have noticed this I'm sure, as last time the number of "likes" was 894, now it is 883 (the same fate as Kyle Brovlofski?). I think if the "user", obviously an automatic posting service (Obv. a guess at the name) that's constantly sharing these ideas, would just chill out with posting people could actually have time to go to the websites and comment on them.

I do plan on doing one more post with a conclusion that relates to my paper, as I doubt anything will change with the sites in the next couple of days. Overall, while I am pleased with the new things I have learned, and therefore will still follow the sites for new recipes, I doubt I will seek out another Special Interest Group unless it's recommended by a friend or has good reviews.
