Aris and quick response codes
The Aris app makes use of quick response codes, this was the first time i encountered such codes. Aris uses QR codes to identify buildings and points of interest in various quests; in addition, most UW buildings have a QR code on at least one of their entrances that you can take a picture, send to aris and receive a description of that building, along with a brief history. In other quests pictures must be taken of these QR codes to advance to the next stage, usually accompanied by some sort of stupid story justifying why standing in front of said building is not enough. In the game creation aspect of Aris, these QR codes can be used to set landmarks that must be revisited by the players. Of course, QR codes still don't add much to the game as being something that is actually fun or making it useful but an application of we are learning in class none the less.
