Aris update -
Holy Crap!! There's a new game available called Henry Mall and take a wild guess, it takes you on a tour of west campus' Henry Mall while adding a spooky ghost story to make things interesting. Like pretty much every quest I've participated in this semester there's not a lot going on, you walk from place to place while getting messages of where the next ghost has been spotted. I still cannot see why anyone would take time to participate in one of these quests, other than the UW campus tour, walking around to random places in the cold just isn't my cup of tea i guess, but to each their own. This new game shows that there is at least one other person using this software besides myself which is encouraging, showing that the potential is there for more user generated content and an eventual community of participation. There are practical applications of this software, may i suggest an Aris bar crawl quest? That's just an idea but the developers insist on sending users on random walking tours centered around poorly written ghost stories. Until next time, happy aimless wandering.
That's interesting that the new quest is incorporating a ghost story. It seems as though their target demographic is children which then might be a great new quest, but I do not think enough children have access to smartphones/ iphones. Even if they do, their parents are probably not aware of the application. Since the application doesn't seem to be attracting anyone's attention, I think adding something like a bar quest would be a great way of making the application desirable to UW Madison students who could then promote it. Who wouldn't want to run around to different bars, trying to beat their friends?
ReplyDeleteI actually downloaded the Aris app on my iPhone, looked through it and immediately deleted it. After reading your blog posts and hearing your presentation, it seems like a pretty worthless app. A bar crawl quest would be a fantastic idea and I feel as though it could have potential, but walking around campus, especially in Winter, seems pointless.
