Practicum post #6

After writing over 40 posts on the 90210 discussion board, I am really feeling a strong sense of community and can see how the online world can truly connect people. Other members have started referring to me and things I've said before, addressing me with my username. Besides a sense of community this discussion board builds, I also feel a stronger sense of identity. After writing on the board for the past few months, I have built my self an identity that is creditable and knowledgable.

One of the posts I found very comical was:

my daughter had to take an egg to pre school today. they are learning about the letter 'e' and they are doing an art project witht he egg. i had to laugh and think bh.

from this post, several other people commented on it and it became not even just a discussion about the show anymore but about that women's daughter's project. people were asking what her project was etc.

Did she exchange the egg for the location of a hot rave? LOL Just kidding.

What sort of art project are they doing? The only thing that came to mind was coloring easter eggs, but the timing is wrong for that.

that person responded back with:

yes a toddler rave, LOL

i am not sure what they are doing. her teacher said that it is part of learning the letter e and then they have an art project planned. i can't wait to pick her up and see what they have done.

The community on this board has extended beyond just 90210 because people are able to talk about other things and get a response back and form relationships. The posts I listed above was just on example of how a 90210 discussion can turn into something else.
