I have finally finished my 10 edits and can now edit any Wikipedia pages which is really exciting. I also started using the "help out" page more to edit pages that I was not necessarily familiar with but needed improvements. Although this might have involved a little bit more research, it was kind of cool to learn about new things while helping the site. I still haven't participated in a deletion page yet although I have tried to read a few of them. I think my problem with deletion pages is that I normally do not know enough about the page to have an opinion on whether or not it should be deleted. In continually editing random pages, I began thinking about my discussion questions. They are: Why do you think people participate in editing Wikipedia articles? and Would you/ have you ever edited a Wikipedia page? Why or why not?
I asked these questions because Wikipedia relies on primarily individual users to edit their pages without any motivations. While some people may want to simply share information to others, at some point this might become tedious and simply too much work. Without this class, I probably never would have thought to edit Wikipedia articles, which makes me wonder how many people are motivated to edit pages by themselves.
