Chat Roulette

I had used Chat Roulette once before and didn’t really have a very eventful experience. Maybe it was before it became really popular for featuring penises. I encountered a few people that seemed like they were from foreign countries and didn’t really speak but waved and moved onto the next person. I also encountered quite a few covered up screens. This time, it was a little different. I encountered quite a few penises, so that was…interesting. It certainly makes the experience feel sketchier overall. I encountered a lot more people this time around and noticeably more girls. I was surprised that some of them were acting scandalously, as well. I came across two girls who said they were in high school. I kind of felt like a creeper talking to them but I had been clicked past otherwise so I went with it. They were really nice and asked me questions about how old I was, where I was from, all that stuff. I realized they were drinking when their male friends came in with alcohol and they were drinking together and then I kind of saw it in their behavior. They left a little while later and I kept clicking through penises and people that weren’t responsive and came across two guys that were probably in middle school. I talked to them for a bit about where they were from and they were kind of rude. They were kind of insulting in a joking manner but I know how immature kids can be at that age. But then they were talking about their sex lives and I got weirded out and said I had to go.

It seems as though Chat Roulette is being used by younger than college age people and seems to be used as an online whorehouse of sorts. The girls I talked to were nice but since they were drinking and they likely saw as many penises as I did, I have to question their intentions. It also makes me question how much is different in youth in the new generation. They all seem to be growing up faster than people my age did, or at the very least not prohibited from mature content that my parents would have had heart attacks over. It makes me a little scared for my future children and what they might experience online and it concerns me to see the broader problem of the shift in what media is being used for. Using Chat Roulette was certainly an eye-opening and overall amusing experience and I’m glad I experimented with it. I don’t see myself doing it again, though.
