I realized today that I have been completely slacking on posting updates since my presentation for the Practicum assignment. I am doing the Special Interest Communities and following Vegetariantimes.com, Cookingwithfriendsclub.com and the Facebook group Delicious Cooking Recipes.
In the past month nothing has really changed with communication on the pages. I have been regularly posting to the sites questions and comments about the recipes, as well as adding my own.
Vegetariantimes.com has a surprisingly high barrier to entry. My comments in Early October took about 3 weeks to show up. Maybe because it is a magazine? I do like reading the posts on the site, there are a lot of great ideas and people comment on how to do different techniques or substitutions. One thing that I do not like is that there isn't really a sense of community. You can't engage with people and share stories about food, since it takes so long to get your comment posted. Also, since there are so many recipes and no option to click for one to be notified when their comment is extended by someone, it's hard to remember (if you are not a student recording your comments) which ones you commented on. By the time yours shows up and someone answers your question you'd most likely find an easier or different dish. With the goals of the practicum project aside, this is my favorite site as far as cooking goes. It has the most recipes, a great search engine, as well as other tips for vegetarians.
Cookingwithfriendsclub.com shows my posts right away. However, when one posts you can choose the (inconspicuous) option of receiving a notification via email. Maybe users don't check this often, as noone has commented on my posts. One thing I noticed on this site was that they now have a Facebook "Like" button, as well as a facebook group. I was surprised that they would add this, as I said in my presentation that the main demographic that is on here seems to be an older, working crowd with kids. The person who started the site, Anna, has children, and has seemed to post more often, possibly engaging the members more. Posts on the main part of the site continue to be more about cooking experiences than the recipes and cooking techniques themselves. The themes continue, the last one was Election Day (?) it mostly had baking ideas for sales at schools, and now it is a Fall/Thanksgiving theme.
Delicious Cooking Recipes is a very active page - for Delicious Cooking Recipes. This user has become more frequent in it's posts, especially since they linked the page with a twitter account. From daily to hourly to every-minute (no I am not exaggerating) postings, this page is overloaded with content about recipes, as well as pages that deal with food like Top Ten restaurants in [City]. The "likes" number has grown to 894! This is great but because Delicious Cooking Recipes posts
Overall, not much has changed except my personal cooking experience and reading about people spending quality cooking time with their kids.
