Practicum Post 4- Brad Umane

After playing the new Call of Duty game for a few hours over Thanksgiving Break, not only have I gotten much better, but have made a few friends. One friend from California, gamertag RyNOmite67, started a pretty interesting conversation with me for about fifteen minutes before he had to sign off. He was married with two kids, both girls, and worked as a elementary school teacher. I am curious about whether or not he was telling me the truth or not. Entering into this fantasy online gaming world, it seems too easy to just make up an identity. Because of this, I can't see myself ever really becoming close acquaintances with anybody in the gaming world.

On a different occasion, I went over to a friend's house to try the new soccer game, FIFA 2011. We decided to take full advantage of the online multiplayer feature and both plugged in our headsets. After two games with no one talking on the other side, we finally found someone willing to chat. He told us his name, location and age. I proceeded to play around and make up completely fictional story about my life to see what kind of response I would get. I told him I was an astronaut from Florida, with nine older brothers and twelve dogs. He totally believed me. I guess you can really say anything online and get away with it.
