Practicum #6- Melissa Morris

As a member of Epicurious.com you can sign up for newsletters and other informative emails from the site. Epicurious often sends out emails pertaining to holiday recipes and special occassions. They will also send out emails for great new recipes that get posted to the site. This is really a great asset to this community as it keeps me updated and informed about the latest things happening on Epicurious.com. While I was home for thanksgiving break I received an email Epicurious recipe flash: Happy Thanksgiving! Within this there were 5 new thankgiving reciples and the latest in articles associated with the Thankgiving meal. My mom and I actually tried out one of these recipes for our own thankgiving dinner and it was really great!

While continuing to visit the site of a day to day basis, I have continued entering into Epi Chat. It has gotten to the point where now its almost more entertaining than informational but I find it interesting to see how people in the community interact with one another. Yesterday I logged into epi chat and just left it up on my computer all day not participating just observing. Leaving it up for so long there was alot to read when I got back from my computer. It was interesting to see how some people really help cater to one another and give advice on cooking, where as others do not stick to the topic at hand. There were people fighting about cellphones. For a few minutes it got out of hand and people were saying inappropriate phrases to one another which shocked me. When scrolling even further down there was conversation occuring in a whole other language. Overall I think this aspect of the site is not necessarily doing what is meant to be accomplished here all the time. However the rest of the website is extrememly helpful in providing cooking advice and sharing with other in the community through use of the recipe swaps and forums!
