After discovery Epi Chat on Epicurious.com I have since tried it out multiple times. I found in interesting each time I have logged into the chat that alot of the same people are always in it from past conversations I have been a part of. The conversations I have had have not necessarily been the most helpful in terms of providing me with cooking tips, though they have been quite entertaining to say the least. The other day after actively participating in a discussion, Iaccidently left open the chat on my screen. I later came back to my computer to find a whole conversation that continued onbetween other members still in the chat. People ended up talking about the weirdest things, nothing remotely to do with cooking. I was somewhat weirded out but I guess some people join specialized information sites not solely for information but to actually meet others as well in ways like Epi Chat.
Discussion Questions:
1. Do you think in order to become a member to a specialized information site you need to be extremely knowledgeable before hand? Is any intelligence you have worthy?
2.Why do you think people choose to become members of specialized information sites such as Epicurious.com?
