Practicum
For my practicum topic i am trying out the iphone game, Aris. Aris is a game (or more accurately series of games) using the iphone's GPS, where users are sent on "quests" that require them to travel around the city or campus. These "quests" can range from collecting objects, to taking pictures of landmarks, or videos of people performing tasks. So far, i have completed one mission that required me to take pictures or videos of people singing their hearts out and then marking their location of said picture or video on my iphone's map. For completing this task i got a congratulatory message from aris and now other users can view/watch the videos and pictures that i took. The process of completing this task was quite fun, and easy, as i just walked around before the OSU asking various fans to sing their favorite badger gameday songs. The next game i am starting is a bit more complicated, i must take on the role of a UW reporter during the protests of the later 1960's. I have to travel to historic locations on campus, take pictures or check-in somewhere and then report back to my "editor" at memorial union. I will update my progress next time.
