For my practicum assignment, I have joined 3 new social networks. The ones that I chose are 43 things, LinkedIn, and FilmAffinity.
43 things is meant for people to list their immediate goals and lifelong ones. You can connect with others who have done what you are trying to do or are taking similar steps and trying to achieve that goal. You are able to connect with others who are in similar situations as you and find out the best ways to go about doing what you want.
LinkedIn is a professional social network in which you can make connections to people in a more professional manner. It is used to search for jobs or employees. You can connect to others through people you know and their professional acquaintances.
FilmAffinity is a network that connects film and television fans. You are able to log on and rank the films and tv shows that you watch. Based on your input, they can connect you to others who have similar input to you. These are called your "Movie Soulmates". You are able to follow their rankings and they can suggest movies for you. The site as a whole is a more personal experience but you are able to find others who have similiar film tastes as you.
These three social networks connect you to other people but seem to be very personal and for yourself. As my profiles expand, I will be able to see what more I can get from these sites. I have spent some time playing on each of these websites trying to get acquainted with them and what to gain from it.
