Practicum blog 3 - Kathryn Messenger
Today, I logged onto Wikipedia and noticed a bunch of AWESOME changes. They revamped their site and specifically modified some features so that Wikipedia is now easier to edit! This was a huge, huge, huge relief and made it significantly easier for me to edit pages because now I do not need to know the code, I simply have to navigate around the code while editing. The new toolbar now provides quick and easy links for people to cite their sources, add tables, pictures, and format pages. Because of this improvement to the site, I decided to edit a couple different sites and found that while it still involved research, the actual editing was easier to accomplish. Unfortunately, I do not have the authority yet to edit well visited pages (I have to make at least 10 edits) but I managed to research my way up to four edits. I also discovered a number of community pages where people discuss pages that need revising. In addition to that, people can discuss and debate whether or not pages should be deleted. Today, I successfully edited the Harry Potter: Deathly Hallows movie page, Tyler Clementi's page and Icing (Drinking Game). I really like the feeling that my work is immediately published and I also really like simply rewording articles that I think could use improvement. It's an awesome feeling.
