Practicum # 1- Melissa Morris

When first getting my topic, I was unsure as to where I wanted to begin searching for specialized information sites. As cooking has always been something I have enjoyed, I decided to search for communities in that field in which I could discuss with others our shared interest in cooking. I joined three different sites on the Internet in which I can interact with others in multiple ways.

I started searching for all types of cooking blogs to see what I can find. One blog popped right up on my screen that immediately sparked my interest called “For The Love of Cooking”. This women Pam posts new recipes on this blog sharing them with others. She has such a variety of recipes that made her blog very appealing to follow. From the comments others lefts about her recipes I was intrigued and immediately wanting to cook some of her specialties. After spending time reading her blog, my roommates and I have already tried one of her recipes, which was excellent. Who would’ve thought this project would benefit my apartment so much?

I also joined a message board through Ivillage.com. Here I can post recipes of my own and also get recipes that other people have posted and recommend. So far I have posted one recipe and am anxious to receive comments back on it. Lastly I joined a Facebook group for those who love cooking. Here as well people swap recipes with one another. After joining this group I logged onto Facebook the next day to look more into it. I was first distracted by a friend request I had on the top of my page. I looked at this girl’s info and it turned out to a request from another girl in the Facebook group. This is just a clear example of how people network together and reach out to others who share similar interests. Together all of these sources have formed one great cooking community enabling others and myself to interact with one another about something we all enjoy.
